I am the director of a program on my career school campus. I also share an office with another program director. Our programs are unrelated, but we both have large class sizes, thus many student issues. We also share one phone line, because of the location of our office. Our company has an open door policy, basically stating we are "never to busy". One of our company's major values is helping our student achieve their goals, and treating our students as "customers". When building a retention program for one's program is there a safe place to begin, or do you have to just determine what is best for your program first, then add in additional practices? I see where it says there are no particular orders or plan but to mix up various practices for your program, but is it possible to start with too much or too little?
How do you manage those students who complain about the activities being too childish or a waste of time, as well as those students who don't like to talk, or that don't want to participate?
How do you deal with a situation where students have come from two different classes, with two different instructors during a previous term, who have now been joined together into the next term with a common instructor? These students are of various ages, various levels of instructors due different instructors....it is now obvious in class that they are split on instructional levels as well as social levels.

So I just became a manager of a team of 8. We have many issues to deal with and problems planning a meeting time that doesn't interfere with class schedules and team member availability. We have about an hour to allocate 2-3 times weekly to meeting, yet many issues to cover. This hour usually falls between classes. Can we effectively meet in 45-50 minute increments throughout the week, yet still have effective meetings in such a short amount of time?
