I love visual aids. They are a great tool to help add additional understanding for learners and provide an additional time for a learner to see/interact with the information to increase their chances of remembering it later on.

Lots of great ideas from group games that connect with different type of learners. To individual games that can be done on a small scale. Works well if different personalities of teaches too. You don’t have to be a loud boisterous teacher to be engaging.

I play a game called “named my diagnosis” and it teaches students to critically think, remember signs and symptoms, and how to communicate effectively with patients. By interviewing me as someone who has a medical condition. Much like the game guess who, except with a disease. My classes love it!!

I love this topic! It stops the “Bueller” effect, of a teacher speaking and a student completely not absorbing the information. As educators we need to find ways to connect to all students.

For nursing students, learning soft skills is pivotal when working with patients, co-workers, doctors, administration, professionals, de-escalations and the everyday person. Understanding body language, how to interpret what people aren’t saying and interpreting people’s needs can help provide better care and understanding of their needs. Communication for a nursing team, is the heart of the workplace.
