Natasha, You are right. I find on a college campus that instructors who teach in more of the humanities don't see it that way but those who teach in professional programs such as business, nursing, and technology see social networking as a skill that students must have. We find more of our students are getting jobs through LinkedIN and other sites than ever before. It also means that employers are in social media sites and see what students post. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson

Richard, You are right, there is quite a bit of information to know to really implement social media. You make a great point, you have to make sure about the institution policies. You may want to have students look at other types of social media policies. Students must be made aware they don't have "freedom of speech" as a professional. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Richard, You could also have students to evaluate media sites using a prescribed rubric or checklist. Then have them determine what is important based on what they saw or didn't see. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson

Philemon, Interesting point. So, do you think in a f2f course, instructors don't have to be as precise in course design? Maybe we should look at f2f courses like we do online courses to improve them? Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Philemon, Why isn't the instructor able to determine students' prior knowledge. We just have to do it differently in the online environment. There should be give and take between the instructor and the student, it is just in a different modality and time. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
