Michael, I too teach a writing course and you are right that they don't really appreciate the skill until they graduate. In fact alumni support the writing course whole heartily . I would do a couple of things; I would ask alumni to record their views of the needs of writing as applied to their job. Just a thought. . . Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Michael, You make some really interesting comments. Improvement is really hard to support when the grading scheme designed for specific goals. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Holly, Is there a role that is more important? Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Kim, Thanks for sharing. I will put it in my "tool" box. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Michael, It is frustrating revamping a course. did you look at what the publisher offers in terms of interactivity? It takes time to develop a robust course particularly when there are high expectations regarding technology and learning. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Holly, If you create all of the details and create a good learning environment, what makes it different than a f2f course. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Kim, Great use of social media! What type of games do you create. I think that is great about giving student choices about learning. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Patricia, What great answers! You are so right about comfort level and availability and reliability of the technology and those who use it (both faculty and student) great insight! Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Christopher, YES! Wouldn't it be great if students actually used the information and/or skills in one course as a foundation to learn more an another. (I have some frustration in this area). Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Christopher, So do your students have to determine what goes into their portfolios? You really need something like a portfolio to assess. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
