About me

Activity

Michael, Yes, it can be used to focus on the mechanics of online learning as well as the prep needed for content. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Michael, You are right, the need to prepare is crucial. This is lacking in many students. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Amos, I will use the term "reorient thinking" I do think when students successfully complete an online course improve their productive in a f2f course. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
George, You are right. Also, students need to be aware of expectation of this! Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Debra, Oh, the frustration and it is not just in the online course! I want all students (f2f and online) to read the textbook! It amazes me that the students think they don't have to expend energy in any sort of learning to earn a grade. ( I will get off my soapbox now). Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Susan, I actually do self analysis in my f2f course. I teach a writing course in both the online and f2f area and I use similar questions in both. Students need to develop a sense of their writing. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Alan, Make sure that students can navigate the course consistently. That also seems to help Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Alan, You make great points. Student must realistically look at their lives to see if the can "fit" education in. This can be a challenge and it is really up to "us" as instructors to have them "assess" that! Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Chad, You are right! Student center means student responsible. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Debra, You make such great points! Once students hit a real or perceived barrier, the shutdown begins. Only communication can help students through this period. You have to tackle the barriers one at a time. Do you provide recordings that students can go back to again and again? That does seem to work particularly with motivated and nontraditional students. When the barrier is technology that can be a real problem that you may have to have help from the university. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
