MARIE, I agree but most students want to interact in a more asynchronous environment. You want to develop some tools that will engage students in that type of environment. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Samantha, What a great post! You are discussing tools that help with engagement so students don't feel alone in their learning experience. These are the keys to success. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Dale, Use your resources provided by your institution. It will keep you from "burning out" due to workload! Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Dale, Do you require students to have good grammar and punctuation? Do you assess it as part of their grade? Just curious. . . Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Miriam, That is what a good student centered person does. You help guide students to what works for them. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Dale, Time management isn't just a problem for online students but with all students. We have to give them tools to use for management. Teaching Outlook to students and making them use a calendar is a start. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Dale, You make a great point about the baseline. It will also help you assess the tools you need to provide these students to make them successful and gauge what may be needed in the future. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Michael, Do you think they just don't know hat plagiarism is or they just don't care? I am finding when students are in a hurry, plagiarism increases. I have found a couple of You Tube clips I make my students watch about plagiarism. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Michael, You make such a great point! You do need to re-evaluate your teaching style for online. When I first began to teach online, I actually scripted my lectures which was something I never did in my f2f course. I wanted to speak succinctly so I slowed my speech patter down. Students HATED it! I actually had one student that asked if I thought all of the students in the course were impaired :). I relaxed a bit and recorded much like I conduct my f2f course. It was a tough lesson for me. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Sharon, Great post! You have named important considerations for an assessment tool. I would add on more thing, proper feedback to the instructor. I have seen technology that I couldn't get data out of regarding student learning. It was so frustrating. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
