Victor, Don't forget you may have to guide them through the first round of questions, modeling appropriate feedback and comment. It will serve as a great reinforcer to students who always seem to "forget" the rules! Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Victor, You are right. It is so important to hold students accountable to good communication skills. That doesn't mean you have to be the "gotcha" person, it means you need to be respectful and professional in giving feedback to students as they interact with you and other students. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson

Molly, I am sure you do! It can be so overwhelming. Try this. Create a discussion board that you required students to post their questions first before they email you. If another student answers the questions professionally and right, they get participation points. If a student emails you first, say you must post your question to the discussion board first. They will get in the habit and it will reduce your email. Of course you have to monitor it to make sure misinformation isn't given but this will work. Victoria, How would you evaluate their work in this medium? Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Victoria, I agree with your strategy. I don't think you can say this is optional as you will have no buy in. You will need to guide students so they have success in this medium to build their confidence. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Victoria, I agree with you. As I just updated my LinkedIn account, we have to educate our students in the role social media can have in their career. We also have to model good communication within the medium. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Janis, I also think there are times that we have that important discussion regarding time management and making choices. It may not be the right time to take courses, or you may need to drop one course. As instructors, we cannot "water down" the content as we have responsibility to our own profession. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Janis, We feel your pain! It is so frustrating when you provide so much for a student and they won't take responsibility. You have remind students that even though you are a student centered instructor, that also means each student is held accountable. You may want to create a recording of you talking through the expectations of the course with you showing them the areas of importance. ` Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Dale, Who started the rumor about online courses being easier? I agree with you, time management is such a challenge for many online students as the don't have to be anywhere to learn. I actually have begun creating a calendar for students to use and to put in their phone. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Janis, Yes, this is so important. Students and instructors need to know the functions of the LMS as it improves the success rate for not just one course bat all online courses. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
