Depending on the task I like groups from 2-4 students. Sometimes 4 is way to many and not everyone gets a chance to work on a task. I like to let the students pick their groups. The reason for this is my class is later in their schooling and more mature somewhat.

I like to walk around the room during lab and lecturing to give me an idea of what student(s) need help. This also helps identifing classroom disturbance.

By telling the students what they are about to learn then after you have taught them tell them again what they learned.

When asking questions you need to be very clear on what the question is, using proper language and an answer they should get and find. Also a wait time is very important, a long with waiting for the student to finish their answer.

Every class is different in the way we teach it. With just 3 weeks a class you need to figure out what is the best style. Also every student is different at times you need to adjust to certain student(s).

What works for me is telling real life experience during a lecture. This will keep them awake and interested. The students want to hear this kind of experience and it changes the subject somewhat.

I have found out that some students with disablities want to try without help, while others use it as a crotch and want an easy way out. However, most really need the extra help and I will go out of my way to help them.
He or she most likely is intelligent, but has some form of disability. As an instructor you look for these signs and help them by explaining things slowly to them. You must be patient with this student. When you see they are getting the info it is a wonderful feeling. This will also help in retention. The key is to reconize this early by looking at there first test and watching them in lab, making sure they don't fall behind.

The instructors provide the tutoring between classes.

Greeting the students before class helps find out if they are having problems. That is one reason I am outside my door at least 5 minutes before class starts.
