Not only can a student request his records from a school but also their parents in certain situations. By either obtaining the students written consent, having the parent establish student dependency, health or emergency and by exercising the disclosure option for students under twenty-one years of age who have had a violation regarding alcohol or a controlled substance, but this may vary per state. 

Students understanding they have access to their educational records ensures there is complete transparency between the two parties. However, the school does have 45 days to provides those records. That can be tough when you're on the student side waiting but it provides clear restrictions to both parties. 

Dating Violence is a term that was unfamiliar to me before this least section of reading. Understanding that Domestic Violence and Dating Violence is important to ensure proper response and procedures. A core between the two is that Domestic Violence is defined by current or former spouses. 

Ensuring the victim has the support they need in any case is incredibly important but just as important is making sure the alleged perpetrator receives fair and equal treatment. This section did a great job illustrating how both are represented during allegations and the investigation process.

Providing students and employees confidential resources gives them the support they need without the obligation to report it. This is important because it allows the victim to have ownership of the crime that was committed against them. 

I found the Clery Act to be the most interesting piece of information in this module. After a 19 year old woman (Jeanne Clery) was raped and murdered from Lehigh University it was uncovered that the University had been hiding dozens of prior cases or sexual assault. The Clery Act holds institutions accountable to accurately track and report these cases, leading to prevention and response training for students and staff.
