About me

My name is Dr. Kiwanna Brackett, and I am excited to be a student in this professional development course. I currently serve as the Associate Dean for the Business and Computer Programs at York Technical College and bring over 20 years of experience in higher education, training and development, human resources, and program leadership.

I am passionate about continuous learning and professional growth, particularly in areas related to leadership development, equity, student success, and organizational effectiveness. I believe strongly in the value of reflection, collaboration, and applying new ideas in practical, real-world settings.

Activity

Some sort of formal provision, in separate courses or in directed work across the curriculum, is needed to give students the opportunity to learn the range of computer literacy skills.

Student professional growth can be enhanced those targeted educational engagement and experiential learning activities

It is important to provide students the opportunity to practice these skills within the classroom setting

Understanding the importance of writing skills helps you design courses with clearer goals, stronger alignment between learning activities and assessments, and deeper student engagement. By intentionally integrating writing, you create more inclusive, meaningful, and real‑world–relevant learning experiences that promote critical thinking rather than surface memorization.

This is a strong reminder of how closely soft skills are tied to technical skill development within coursework. Experiential learning offers effective opportunities to strengthen both, and I plan to explore more ways to intentionally integrate these approaches into my courses.

In the high-stakes world of business, technical expertise (hard skills) might get you through the door, but soft skills are what keep you in the room—and eventually, running it.
