A flipped classroom leads to a more student centered approach to learning and has been shown to help with behavior issues and raise grades.

I've learned that a flipped classroom approach has been shown to lessen behavioral issues and raise test scores.

Implementing a flipped classroom takes the burden off of the instructor and makes students more accountable for their own education and learning. They are more active in the learning process.

Critical thinking skills will be utilized by every student at some point in their career.  It is helpful to develop and strengthen those skills now so the student is ready to think independently to solve problems.  Which leads me to problem based learning which teaches students to solve problems.  Giving them real life scenarios to solve in small groups might be a fun active learning technique to help strengthen critical thinking skills.

Active learning in an online format requires a bit of thinking outside of the norm.  Because the instructor does not have the students directly in front of them, various interactive methods will need to be utilized to keep students engaged.

I'm glad to see others posted about faulty technology in the classroom because this disturbs me so much when this happens.  All the planning in the world, a multi-layered, well thought out lesson plan are all for naught if the technology won't work.

Active learning puts the student in charge of their own academic success.  The instructor serves as a leader, guide, coach, etc. and establishes rules and expectations.  Ultimately the student decides their outcome and success rate by their level of engagement and commitment to learning.

Managing many different learning types, student types, and situations that may arise are all components of managing the online learning environment.  Clear expectations, communication, and a strong online presence will all help ensure a productive online learning environment,

There are challenges and benefits to synchronous and asynchronous learning formats.  It is important to develop skills and plans that work effectively for both types of learning formats.

It is important to have a strong online presence as well as on ground because it makes the students feel more supported in all environments.
