Giving the students information on the several Repayment Plans is extremely helpful because it helps the student to be knowledgeable if or when they are faced with a hardship.
Deferment and Forbearance are different. Deferment stops interest from accruing, but Forbearance doesn't. So, the borrower's loan balance will not increase when on Deferment. This is the best decision when experiencing a hardship.
Greeting students by their name and with a smile can make all the difference in the world! This gives students a feeling of belonging and also pushes them to have a positive attitude towards learning. Maintaining contact during school and after graduation forms good relationships.
Upon arrival students should be met with visual and verbal prompts to help them with their Financial Aid journey and also makes the student aware that the institution is a constant source to educate them how to be good stewards over their financial commitment.
I've learned that Retention is doing the right things the right way - having the right people in the right place at the right time.
I intend to apply this knowledge when dealing with students, insuring they feel heard and supported.
