Monitoring students is a critical part of basic instruction. You must be making constant "spot checks" to make sure everyone is comprehending the information as you go along. Also a very critical point,is being able to make sure your faster learners are not becoming bored.

There are generally two types of learning groups that instructors use. These are known as informal and formal groups: This is a key point that I will employ, hopefully with very successful results for the benefit of my students

At our school, the Instructors have nothing to do with orientation. The entire orientation is conducted by department heads. Whether or not this is good has not, to my knowledge, ever been questioned, or discussed.

Except for very breif lectures(Key points and instructions)My current class is predominately lab activity. My students and I do mutual participation demos the first six days of the class. Students normally work in pairs during this period,if the pairings work well, I leave them alone, if not I will change a pairing. Most pairs work well with no modification needed, the students are made to understand that after the first six days,All graded tasks must be accomplished absolutely solo! This tack prevents "coat-tailing" as students know from the outset that they must understand, and, more importantly be able to perform graded tasks… >>>

Probably the most frustrating retention issue for me is attendance failure.Every now and then a student will seemingly be doing fine and then just quit attending. You can't do much because by the time you realize there is a problem, they are gone.

The most important day of class, intro, explain tasks, grading, and acceptable behavior.
The first day of a class is probably the most important. After a breif "getting acquainted session" I very carefully explain the reasons for achieving competence in each specific class exersize. I explain each project in general detail and explain what is required to be successful in each task.

I am directly responsible for setting up the classrooms under my range of influence. To properly prepare a class room, you must lay out tool boxes neatly within a designated work area. I must prepare a system for keeping expendable items stocked, and make sure appropriate training aids are in place. Lastly the classroom must be laid out comfortably as well as aesthetcally pleasing
To avoid having disipline problems and to have your students pay attention to the lesson, you should present yourself as a role model. This means dress properly and neatly, be well groomed and speak clearly and properly.
