About me

Activity

I teach polysomnography....Its pretty technical, a science if you willl.  There isnt really time for people to mess around.  You need to learn it and know it.

I agree. The energy that active learning generates involves the entire class and allows everyone to engage in class discussions. It allows allows each student to be able to see how their peers think. great tool for learning.

With the various age ranges in my classes, implementing active learning allows the students to engage in both critical and analytical thinking with one another and with the various ages, Active learning does not descriminate.   With out even thinking about it, the students engage their piers, and what I have noticed is that everyone is more successful in the long run.

I think that active learning in the classroom is a great tool for students because it allows them to engage themselves in both analytical and critical thinking. Working all aspects of their brain. It allows them to utilize the various resources available to them engaging each other, the teacher,to discover the most useful information.

Agreed, I just couldnt allow a student to disrupt my class in that fashion.  The need to address issues in an appropriate manner is crucial to proper development as a professional.

I agree Othello, we as instructors have to embrace change.  If we dont we the students abilities tend to lack that spontanatity, that drive that they should have as they enter the field.

I think that the posiitve feedback that we as teachers provide to our students goes a long way.  It is imparative to hear that we are doing good.  Ones future successes, depends on our current ones.

Good course great things to be reminded of as we get in to our slumps, too spread out though, some questions on the final test could have multiple answers that were present.

By developing the proper approach to all students, the retention rates I noticed do increase as well as the desire by the students to WANT to succeed. There is more motivation I've noticed. The students seek out the answers.
In my last class, the age gap was at least 20 years. The difference in which the generational gap with respect to learning is amazing. The kids, just out of college, have been using computers their whole life, and quickly engaged in class, both participating and asking questions. With the middle-age adults, that group was more reluctant to engage. The approach was different, but a learning experience for me as well.
