Active learning is a teaching and learning approach that emphasizes student engagement and participation. Unlike traditional passive learning, where students primarily listen to lectures and take notes, active learning strategies require students to be actively involved in the learning process.

It is beneficial to online learners in that it provides:
Increased Engagement: Active learning strategies can help keep students engaged in online courses, reducing the risk of disinterest or dropout.
Better Retention: Students are more likely to retain information when they actively participate in the learning process.

Media helps the student to interact and engage with the content and captures their attention.

Discussion posts allow students to learn from their peers in terminology and experiences that are unique. They also can get feedback from their peers on their posts.

The readings need to be specific and students should have an understanding of why the readings are assigned and how they ar pertinent to the discussions and assignments.

This course focused on having an organized course set up with clear instructions and expectations and I will emphasize this in my course as well, especially by being a role model for my students. I will check in with the students and help them to establish strong learning skills.
