Comment on Maeve Deloughery's post:  having them share out what they did allows you to give immediate feedback

I like to have students  share out what there groups discussed and completed on the project

It is import to tie purpose to the things we do which creates more intrinsic motivation

Enthusiasm and convictions are keys to engagement with students.  If you are passionate and enthusiastic students remember you and your class as it make learning more enjoyable. If you do not know know the specific content real well, learn more about it be fore class. Anticipate questions they may ask so you have the answers prepared

a variety of learning activities keeps the class fun and engaging (surprise). The same thing class meeting may diminish attendance.  Getting all students to participate or answer questions can create a desire for more learning and engagement

I have been told that my passion and enthusiasm during class is motivating and inviting for the students. Asking them to answer and discuss the material that they read get them to interact and engage

Different students have fears for different reason. Knowing why students are in the class can help you to structure it properly so they will be motivated to be there and participate.  Adult learners need to relate the class to what they want to achieve and apply to their life now.

When you relate the concepts of an assignment to real life situations it is more motivating to complete.  I am also trying to move away from always having to offer points or grades (carrots) for student to complete a task and want to learn.  It is very hard though

Comment on Norma Perez's post: sometimes it is difficult waiting with the awkward silence for someone to answer the question but don't jump to answer it for them.  Maybe ask it a different way

I think it is interesting to give them choices of assignments or class procedures.  If they are not forced or uncomfortable having to complete a particular assignment they will be more engaged
