Activity

The importance of preparation cannot be overstated. Sometimes you may need to take a lot of time in preparation (e.g. 3 hours to prepare a 1 hour lesson) but it is time well spent.

The importance of connections between faculty and students is essential to success. It starts with first impressions, but carries through the entire class. Accessibility, follow-through, and support must continue beyond the first encounters.

Planning and preparation are essential to successful instruction.

So far, this material has reinforced my understanding of the importance of being enthusiastic and prepared regarding my topic and my interactions with students and peers. The importance of modeling the expected behavior is probably my biggest takeaway. It reminds me of a saying I once heard and often repeat: "A leader leads by example, whether they intend to or not." As educators, we are leaders, so modeling the way is an important element of our success.
