About me

Bio

Asst. Professor of the Business Management Department, I received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Flagler College. I completed a Masters in Business Administration from Pace University in New York City. I completed a Doctorate in Business Administration and Marketing in 2008. My past employment consists of for profit and non-profit organizations, including marketing assistant for GE Appliances, teaching at Texas A&M University and the University of Phoenix along with various other business related experiences. I have a strong enthusiasm for teaching and a clear connection to the needs of the students. I have worked to make student retention and success a top priority. I am a Certified Online Instructor as well as Quality Matters Certified.

 My Teaching Philosophy

I believe that everyone is capable of learning, and there are many ways to foster that process. I utilize a variety of activities—participation, class discussions, group activities, hands-on projects, real world scenarios and lectures based on the fundamentals of the subject using real world methodology to encourage, inspire and engage each student. I encourage students to ask questions and participate in class discussions and I have an open door policy allowing students to discuss concerns/issues as a class, team or on an individual basis.  I also use related current business and management topics, to provide skills that will let students achieve success in college and beyond.  I worked at several universities that admitted "non-traditional" students. I have experience facilitating online classroom working adults, and have found that they are motivated by providing an encouraging environment where they are given a level of understanding about each of their unique situations, including working, family and life experience. Adult learners have an enriching background to provide to not only me, but to the other students in the class, and I aspire to bring that to the classroom experience.

Personal Info

I have three children with Autism and I spend lots of time in the community with them. I enjoy surfing, playing soccer, photography and couponing…no I’m not an extreme couponer, but I do enjoy saving money! I also love to travel and I'm currently planning my next big adventure with my sister.

Activity

I have been teaching online since 2005. When I started this was a new platform and no one knew what to do with it, so most professors took their face to face lectures and posted them online. Well....we now know this doesnt work to increase engagement at all. You have to change lectures and work harder to get students involved than you would in a classroom setting.

In a classroom if students are having issues you talk to them.

Online students need the same kind of understanding. In fact many of them are juggling, school, work, kids, families, etc. I… >>>

Discussion Comment

I agree! I teach marketing and I learn MORE from my students and their career experiences than I ever could from reading about companies on the internet!

I agree it is a big challenge! Especially with students dropping and adding the first week. So that leaves really only 4 weeks to get all the information across to them. I encourage early posting to discussion boards. I email and text when i dont hear from students. I make the topics interesting so that they want to participate.

Discussion: The Pros and Cons of Life-Changing Ideas

Changing the world with new ideas doesn’t always bring positive outcomes, such as the addition of value to a product line, a business, or a society. When faced with innovative ideas, marketers must take into account both the potential positive and negative effects of putting those ideas into practice.

To prepare for this Discussion, review articles about self-driving cars such as those that are being developed by Google. Consider the positive and negative implications of introducing these vehicles into the market, focusing specifically on the possible social and economic impacts. … >>>
