About me

Activity

Understanding our own teaching styles and technology resources available.  Matching instruction style with technology tools that provide useful functionality for both myself and the students will be key.

I'm not currently using a rubric for that portion of the class. I do use it for forums and other assignments related. I haven't figured out a way to use them with the resume/references and cover letters because the material is so personal and subjective. Each student is at a different level within their professional life.
I teach a Careers class where we build individual resumes etc. This is such a subjective area and sometimes it's difficult for me to use traditional grading methods. I find that using a Digital Portfolio works best for me.
I believe that rubrics can empower students by providing specific guidelines and expectations. When you have it all spelled out in front of you it helps to alleviate stress that often times is associated with posting to public forums and boards.
I recognize the importance of keeping classroom content current, fresh, fun and upbeat. I've recently began to incorporate relevant (fun) YouTube videos into the classroom lectures which allows us an opportunity for open discussions. I would like to add some into the online coursework but I'm not sure it would have the same impact without the classroom discussion.
