As a Department Chair at an online school, it is impportant for me to educate both myself and my faculty on the curent copyright laws and how these affect their performance in the classroom and the expectations for the students as well. We hold topoical meeting every session to discuss relevant items related to the institution and online learning environment, sand I am going to use the knowledge and resources found in tis training module for an upcoming training session, as it is important to align our daily practices with legal and ethical decision making.

My Experience With Rubrics

I am a professor at a Career College and I am a HUGE proponent of using rubrics in the classroom. In fact, I refuse to teach a class unless the class is properly equipped and outlined with rubrics to help keep the students on track. I look to these documents and actually refer to them to my students as my 'contract' with them for every assignment. I try to impress on them that the rubric should be used as a checklist for them to complete before turning in an assignment. It usually takes one set of project grading and feedback… >>>

Motivation in the Online Environment

As an instructor for an online college, there are great challenges in keeping students constantly motivated and eager to learn and grow. My portfolio class allows me the versatility in my teaching style to include live critiques of the student work, allowing the students to interact with one another and provide an interactive platform for learning from each other. Here, they feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from one another and see great growth in their work as there is a bit of 'peer pressure' to continue evolving as the other classmates do.
