Just a nice reminder that FERPA is important to ensure compliance.

I learned that there can be disruptive behaviors in an online course. As a student, I never saw disruptive behavior from other students. So it is a shock to learn that it is possible to be disruptive in an online course.

It was fascinating to learn abou the different online learning styles. I often see these learning styles in person so it's interesting to learn that they translate to online learning as well.

Providing students information about who you are and what you expect is key to ensuring you start off on the right foot. I intend to do this by explaining my background and experience and sharing some of my hobbies and interests. I also like to provide students with my expectations for myself ie. how soon I should respond to their emails.

After viewing this module, I've learned the importance of seeing the orientation process that students go through. Doing so helps provide the instructor with some of the knowledge base students have in navigating their online courses. I intend to watch our librarian go through the online orientation with the next group of new students. As one of the first instructors they encounter, I often have students asking me for technical support which I am uncertain how to provide.

Reply to Lisa Brown's post: I agree - there are a lot of tasks for instructors teaching online courses.
