I have learned that FAO's should be educating themselves on compliance issues and that knowledge is power

 

I have learned that PJ's must be on a case by case basis and requirements must be followed and documented and justified.

 

I have learned that any C codes need to be dealt with as quickly as possible or disbursements will be delayed.

 

I have learned about the FAFSA application processes 

 

I have learned that default prevention does not end when a student leaves my office. That knowledge is power for the student and that it is my job to keep them as informed as possible for their own success. 

 

I have learned that Exit Counseling is just as important as Entrance Counseling as well as Dispursement Notifications to keep the student in the loop.

 

I have learned that maintaining contact information and a positive relationship with students will only help reinforce them to stay positive and want to continue their education and pay their student debts. Maintaining that positive relationship will build trust and encouragement.

 

I have learned that a good impression from the Financial Aid Office can start off a student with a good positive handle on their student loan obligations. That staying in contact with the student is not only beneficial but necessary to keep them in good standing and avoiding default issues. 

 

I have learned that it is important to know the rules and regulations of the approprate agencies on change of ownership reporting in order to stay in compliance with FSA Funding and that there are penalties for not keeping up with required records. This information is helpful knowing that I need to be careful with records and timelines.

 

I have learned about Common Origination and Dispursement and that it should be reconciled daily. I also learned that timeliness is key on withdrawals to refund any amounts due or student financial aid counseling to repay any debts owed. It is important to stick to procedures to keep in good standing for grant programs.
