First impressions are important, they can set the tone for the entire semester. Be mindful.

Be prepared. Checklists help ensure everything is covered. Actively engage with students throughout the course. 

Even as the instructor in the room, we are not necessarily the smartest person in the room. Motivate by being an example. 

Outreach is important for engagement, acknowledge the student's presence. We also need self-reflection on engagement utilization and it's individual effectiveness.
