I have learned more about CTE history and pathways.

I need to be culturally aware of my students.

Teacher leadership in all my CTE classes and allow students to fail so they can learn.

Teachers need to keep up to date with technology (hardware and software) in order to help students succeed.

 Teams should establish clear roles, maintain open communication, reach consensus for completing tasks, recognize and respect all contributions, address issues, apologize if a mistake is made.

Students lack soft skills, especially in critical thinking.  Critical thinking and soft skills are what employers are looking for.  

  1. Use specific positive reinforcement.
  2. Ignore minor negative behavior infractions.
  3. Use 10 positive statements to 1 negative statement.
  4. Create a collaborative problem-solving solution to address behavioral issues.
  5. Be consistent

Stay calm and observe the situation.  Make contact if necessary but be gentle in your approach.

 

It is difficult to pinpoint signs of trauma because it can resemble many ailments.  Some signs are more prominent and easier to spot.  We as educators need to be on the constant lookout for the signs and get help.

Many students have PTSD that affects their daily lives and school.  It is important that it is recognized and addressed so that they can improve their quality of life.
