Management of the e-learning environment is fairly similar to that of the regular classroom in that you need to establish documentation and maintain consistency.  It is important to focus on communication to assist in working out issues with various types of learners before things get too bad.  I plan to try to determine reasons for non-participation and seek ways to eliminate any issues students are having.

 

Asynchronous groups can be all of my class, whereas chats and single student discussions should be 1-6 students.  I hope to schedule regular chats as well as respond at a minimum of once per week with each student online.  I may have to combine my responses since I do have some students more than once in a day for diferent courses and some courses are offered multiple times during the day.  I think that I will use Edmodo for my communication as I have done thus far and make sub-groups for classes, but keep the whole course (even if over… >>>

Creating a biography and asking one of your students is important in establishing a relationship.  Students are more likely to communicate when they feel comfortable with their instructor and will respect them when they know that they have the knowledge and experience for the course.  I plan to post a bio for all students to access and include a bio lesson for students.  I actually think that a pre-course and post-course bio might be interesting as well.

 

There are many different CMS approaches and that teachers do have choice in the delivery of them, which I appreciate.  It is good to know some of the tips that are suggested to make such a course go smoothly.  I need to be sure that I have a program fully set up with as few kinks as possible since I teach many different courses at the same time.  As a rural smal town teacher, I have a lot of students on computers so that we can offer as many electives as possible to them at the same time.  Having the… >>>
