Activity

When asking students questions in class I will choose 3 students for the same question only one can answer the question. All 3 students will talk about the question and then produce the answer. At that point I will be able to probe for how the student got the answer. This how I would get the quite and self esteem students active in the class.
How do you manage those students that are not ready to be leaders? Some students have some fear of a leadership roll to help out in this will put the student in charge of cheking in tools from the groups. then ask them what the diffrence is. i point out that the student was in charge (leadership) most of the fear goes away.
I will put students in groups of 4 and put one student as a team leader. Ever other lab I will rotate the team leader within the same group. Each week I will mix up the students into different groups and start all over. This will encourage the students to get to know one another and be able to adjust to different types of personalities. When doing this I have seen the students gain confidence they need to do when working in the automotive filed and in life.
In the course that I teach, Basic Electricity can be difficult to learn. Buy the time the first lab comes around some students will get the feeling that they will not do well or even fail the course. I will pare up the student with a student that has a positive attitude as this works well for me. The students will learn from each other and have found that the student that had a negative feeling is now has a positive one.

What I will do is go over the labs so the student will know what is required of them and what is required on the labs. At the end of the lab I will as for input from the students as to what was found and what was hard for the student to understand. In getting this input it will help me to make any modifications for a better understanding and better learning experience for the student.
Each student has deferent issues and due to this has to handled in a different way. I have found in the past that talking to them will help, not all the time. Other times I will put them with other students and then hold the student accountable for what is being done as a group. This will help show the student how to work with others.

The type of strategies that can be used like, quizzes, crosswords and such but these types of strategies involve the student to read. If this is the case most of the strategies will not work well. I will use quizzes but will back up with covering the topic over and point to key words. Will try to use lots of visual's to help make the topic or subject easer to understand. Case in point when giving quizzes I will make key words bold print and underline that word. I will have students come up explained and set up the scenario… >>>

At the start of the class I tell my story about overcoming learning issues and how I never liked to read and what that means in the Automotive industry. As in previous post if any student has accommodation and see me privately. When I give the first test and a student has failed, I will fill out some paperwork on the students that have failed. I will talk with each student about the test and ask how I can help and reinforce that is why I’m there. Having the student sign the paper makes the student feel that I have… >>>

I teach the electronics course 117 basic, since this is the first time for most students on this topic it very important for the students to get the concept of how this mystery stuff works. Starting I will put each student on a project to insure an understanding of the concept. Next step will put students into groups of two till I reach a group of 4. When I put the students in groups of 4 I will assign each person in that group a responsibility like, shop Foreman, tool person, clean-up and a student review with group about what has been done.
Moving around to different parts of the classroom, keeping eye contact, and using different voice vernation helps keep students attention. When a student asks a question I will pause and then ask if anyone in class can answer that question, if not I will tell them and take the class to that part of the lesion. I have found that if one student has that type of question that others have the same question.
