Great tools I can use as I move forward with my online curriculum. These will be great ways to ensure I am building a course that both meets the students needs with my instution's objective, all while presenting the material in such a manner to keep the students interested in learning.

I had never heard of metarburics before. It is like the 4Cs of a diamond. Use the content, clarity, usefulness, and reliabilty/validity scales to determine if the rubric should be kept, revised, or tossed out. It will help in determinimg the rubric to be used for any given course.

I did not realize that there were websites dedicated to rubric development. I will use one to help me through the rubric building process.

I like the thought of peer assessments through the use of rubrics. Not only does it give the student a opinion from someone going through the course with them, it also helps the student providing the assessment another tool in learning the material. The rubric also becomes a studying tool for the students.

When designed and implemented properly against the course of instruction, rubrics are a very useful assessment tool for both the instructor and student. They help define expectations for the student, without supressing creativity. They also help a group of instructors grade to the same standards. I believe this definately creates an "equal playing field" from the student standpoint.

I have taken courses before that used Rubric. I now realize that the rubric was not used correctly. I never saw the rubric until the coursework was complete and I was given my final grade based off said rubric. I now see how using rubric effectly will enhance my course and the student's learning capabilitiy.

I have used and taken both the Norm and Criterion-referenced assessments and never knew they were different. I know, now, I deffinately will use the Criterion-referenced assessments in my course.

I had no idea the difference between assessment and evaluation. It is great knowledge to have as I create my course and move on to implementation.

Understanding the different assessment tools, the advantages/disadvantages of each will help in creating a variety of assessments and ensuring the learning objectives are met.

The holistic assessment approach for students is a great way to determine true learning of the curriculum. I will be implementing holistic assessment of the learning experience in my course.
