There was some valuable information presented on how to maintain communication and a good record keeping system, identifying troublesome student behaviors, providing counseling and conflict reolution to prevent student attrition.

I learned about the differences in asynchronous and synchronous discussions and how best to use each technique. It was enlightening to learn of the different learning styles and that most students are generally a blend of several. It was stressed that these learning styles should be identified early and modified as necessary for optimum learning.

It is so important to develop relationships early with the students. A great way to create the ice breaker is to let the students know who you are through a biography of your credentials, experience, and reasons you chose teaching. They will. in turn, feel more at ease in revealing themselves through writing one of their own. It helps to establish trust and rapport that is so essential to the instructor/student relationship.

The more I am familiar and knowlegeable of the CMS that my institution uses for delivery of e-learning, the more support I can give to the students to be successful. All the tools are provided, they just need to be utilized effectively.
