Now that we know who the students are, and have some idea of the difficulties they face in college, We can understand and promote institutional responsibility, and help to fulfill the federal mandate for access and in turn, student success.

This gives a better description of differences set forth between 504 and ADA laws. It also helps differentiate the difference between K-12 "disabilities" and higher education requirements. Working with accommodations for higher education, students are limited by the students ability to perform with the availability of those accommodations.

Rights and protections of student info, institutional safeguards, and federal safeguards protect all parties from violations and regulatory investigations.

I mainly learned how requests and what records can be released and when for currently enrolled students, deceased students,  alumni and enrolled students who are also employees.

Safeguarding student information and the regulations have very specific guidelines. Just because someone internally, or a parent or employer requests the information, does not mean they are automatically granted access. Qualifying facts are needed to insure the student has the right to restrict directory or educational information from being released. And if info is released it is documented in their record with who, what, when, where, and why.

This module provides specific guidelines and example to protect student educational information, protect the institution from violation and punishment based on FERPA.
