Bernie, classroom design can be a factor in classroom management and effective transfer of knowledge. The ability of the instructor to be out around the students is critical as well. The more you as the instructor are moving among the students the more they will focus on you and your message. James Jackson

Holly, have you spoken to these students directly and in private? For many students, once they know you are monitoring them directly they tend to be more mindful of the rules. You can also incorporate a class participation grade that can be used to score students on how they follow the rules which is much like how they will be evaluated in a work place setting. You can explain to your students that part of the objective of the class is to prepare them for the workplace and conduct and how they follow the rules is part of being a… >>>

michael, students often do not understand the importance of each subject that is part of a larger curriculum. Helping students to better understand the relevance and importance of each class to their career is a great technique and one I highly recommend. Thanks for sharing. James Jackson

stacy, some institutions are using different types of orientation sessions to prepare the different groups for being in the same classroom. Someone who has been away from school for 15 years will need a different approach versus a student that is less than two years removed from high school. By providing each group their own orientation you can better narrow the gap of expectations for the first day of class and beyond. Just something to consider. James Jackson

Carol, creating small wins that build upon each other is critical in the overall learning process. Good job being a guide for your students. James Jackson
DeVon, leading by example and inspiring to inspire others are also good traits to consider. Thanks for sharing your well constructed list. James Jackson
JOSE, treating others the way you want to be treated is always a good policy. The other concept to keep in mind is just because others do not treat you the way you want to be treated does not give anyone the right to treat others poorly. I feel we as instructors forget this at times. We always need to be in our "A" game and do not have the luxury of just being ourselves. James Jackson
Rebecca, very true. The more we know as instructors about the learning process our students use, the more we can use that knowledge to apply different teaching techniques to enhance their understanding. Thanks for bringing this critical topic forward. James Jackson
