I learned that providing motivation is essential to student success and having a solid knowledge base of the material creates credibility

I’ve learned discussions can be vital to the learning process. It’s a way to evaluate what the students know and for you as the instructor to gage areas you might need to do more instruction on.

Self evaluation helps in making sure you are aware of the environment. It allows you to have more insight on what the students see. As an instructor I will make sure to allow the students to lead their learning just as much as I would need to help lead them.

I’ve learned communication is key as an instructor. Oftentimes we can get caught up in the process of being the instructor. But sometimes it requires doing more listening than talking. Allowing students to express themselves and educate you can in-turn help them.

I’ve learned that students respond differently to different teaching methods. When I’m lecturing I plan to use the different teaching styles to convey the information I want to get through to my students. I will also demonstrate methods or skills to them and use teach back techniques to help guide the evaluation of their learning.

I’ve learned, preparation is key no matter what.
Learning the students name shows that you care about them. It gives a sense of respect for them.

I’ve learned planning and preparation are the keys to success. It minimizes your stress of being new to instructing a course or having a new group of students. Both you and your students can share feelings of being nervous but your preparation help alleviate some of this.
Also, don’t depend on your own memory. Keep a notebook to take notes, leave reminders for yourself, and keep track of your things to do.

I have learned, you are a walking advertisement for your profession. Despite not being intentional about the display. You’re always on display.

Trying to prove how smart you are will boomerang. And It’s beneficial to practice humility but be confident in yourself.
