Another example that can be used to spark memory are pictures. Present a picture and ask questions about it. The picture can be taken apart and just one item in the picture used, and students can recall things or events to relate to the item. I haven't used this but it seems a good way to get students to talk. Joshula

Using examples in lecturing in teaching is a very good way to involve student in communicating. Once a teacher teaches a point and then uses an example as a way of making the point, students can then think of similar examples. In this manner the point taught is related to some experience the student has had. Therefore, making it relative to the student. Joshula
This is a good guideline for giving bonus/extra credit points, especially for students that don't test well but know the course content. But how about the marginal students, those that miss some classes and hand in work late, what do you do with those students? Should extra credit be arbitary? josh
I would like to know or if teachers subscribe to handing out bonus/extra credit projects. This has been a real question for me. I am not sure if this is something that should be on the sylabus at the beginning of the class or given to individual students to bring up their grade. It is a question that is faced in grading and I would like to know how teachers handle it. josh
A student may come into a school with one goal in mind but learning brings about new goals. Instructors should be able to help students move, or reset their goals at each step in the learning process. Josh
