The design of the two types of assessment are important. The assessments should be well designed with clear relevance to the current course work. It is sometimes possible and desired to include self and peer assessment in the process of the coure. It is alwasy important to ave clear and detailed rubrics for each assessment.

Scaffolding of students learning is supported by a dynamic syllubus that changes with teh needs to the class and can be used to find the overview and directiosn for class participation, evaluation, communication and prblem solving. The diesgn of tehclass should encourage students to share their knowledge to help build the learning community's foundation or scaffold. The instructor must monitor this so that the correct information is shared with all learners.

Creating or authoring an online class take a step by step approach. Each module and the lessons it contains whould be formatted in the same way to create continuity and ease for the students. The all aspects of the initial module/lesson should be tested before replicating them. Ideally you would have anotehr person use the features to be sure they work as intended. Also, it is advisable to create an place to store any digital objects created or used in teh modules. This iwll save time recreating itmes that may be useful in more than one application.

I learned that I need to effectively organize my storage of classwork, emails and other student submissions and interactions. This is to respond effectively and address different student participation styles for the best student and class outcomes. When I teach online I will need some checklists to be sure the stuctures necessary for a great online class on in place.

In this module I learned more about the value of asynchronous vs. synchronous interactions with a class of students. Aynchronous is strongly suggested over synchronous.  It also became clear that asynchronous writen responses by students will be a primary way for students to engage with the course material and each other. This allows the instructor to assess understanding and respond to effectively. In classes that are too small or too large (above 40) it will be more difficult to elicit student engagement in either way, asynchronous or synchronous due to the variety of student learning styles and the need for student… >>>

There are a number of tools to establish the roles and relationships of the class from the beginning. To teach effectively in an online environment one has to take actions that relate to timing and format of relational interactions between teacher and students and  students and students. There need to be sychronous adn asynchronous options available within the course.

I learned that the course structure, the structure of the delivery platform AND my familiarity with both have a great impact on students expereince and ability to navigate the online learning experience successfully. There is a lot of 'new to me' vocabulary.
