Activity

Support students and offer resources for IT help as needed. Moderate the forums and adhere to protocols and policies

Small groups for some discussions to encourage participation from those students that may feel overwhelmed or outdone by chatty students

Be mindful of class sizes

Communicate expertise and experience to students.

Gather information on students, they may have insights and knowledge helpful to their peers

Keep the steps of the demo to a minimum. Model the activity, interact with the students and keep the demo lecture to 15 minutes

It is the small things that are really huge. Learning their names, and their goals for the class. 

Being prepared and organized shows the students you care about the quality of their learning.

Students know if you do not care about the content or are just going through the motions.

A checklist is a great idea to not miss any important points in their learning

Online courses require instructors to have a working knowledge of the system. Students will look to the instructor to assist in navigating the CMS.

Being organized on the CMS, Continually monitoring the discussion boards, deleting outdated postings, etc. helps the students and instructor to be organized

Being knowledgeable about content is only one aspect of teaching.

Setting expectations for the students and following through with them is also important.

Being fair and consistent sets a foundation for future classes.  Students will know I give excellence and fidelity in the content I will be teaching.
