The module offers us very valuable information about engaging students in the E-learning process and the importance of understanding the nature of both Asynchronous and Synchronous Discussions, as well as the learning styles of the students to successfully meet the course goals. Besides, the module gives us some guidelines for providing feedback in the E-learning environment,

Some of the key aspects highlighted are:

Asynchronous discussions do not happen at the same moment. They occur at different moments and extend over a period. They can be viewed as the heart of an online course Students are able to participate and express… >>>

Projecting our Presence

Some of the strategies instructors use in a traditional classroom setting can also be used in an online setting. Nevertheless, the module presents four specific ways of projecting our presence in an e-learning environment:

·       Initiate, lead, monitor, and manage synchronous discussion sessions.

·       Oversee team projects.

·       Participate in asynchronous discussion forums by offering your response to the discussion question and sharing with all participants a summary of their contributions.

·       Answer student queries and provide informative and constructive feedback in a 24  hour turnaround time

To be a successful online instructor it is important to comprehend factors such as:

I    The Course Structure and Quality, which implies some aspects:

  • Structural integrity
  • Navigational simplicity
  • Intellectual interaction

·       Active learner-centered learning

II   The Course Delivery Platform. You should become fully familiar with your institution's online course delivery platform - commonly referred to as a Course Management System (CMS) and understand that a typical CMS contains features through which

Students can:

  1. View a list of courses for which they are registered.
  2. Gain access to the course materials including:
  • Tutorial content
  • Assignments
  • Assessment measures,… >>>

Organization is always a key element to deliver content. It is the instructor who has the final considerations about the best ways to facilitate the acquisition or mastery of such content by the students, but the point is that these consideratins need to be based on the instructor's expertise and knowledge about the course. An instructor needs to keep in mind what are the goals and objective of the course and what are the possibilities he has to help his students to achieve them.

Here I present a summary of the main points:

Creating Lesson Plans

After the first day… >>>

The first impression for instructors starts the minute they enter the class and continues throughout the first class meeting. Through careful planning and preparation that first encounter can be one that helps the students understand what you expect and provides you with the opportunity to establish yourself as an instructor of quality and integrity

Show Time:  at least 15 minutes early

Cohort Groups: don’t let the cohort group take control of what you want to accomplish. You are developing new history for the cohort group and after a few successful class meetings you will be perceived as being… >>>

The results of investing time in instructional methods and strategies are incredibly rewarding.

As a Research Methodoly professor, I found incredibly difficult to teach my students how to write the final report of their research.

Fortunately, inquiring about this matter, I found out that one of the ways I could help them, was to approach it through the perspective of Discourse Analysis. I ended up applying new strategies which produced great results.

There are several areas instructors should focus on when preparing to teach:

1. Selecting content to teachIn career education, content selection is usually prescribed either by the institution itself, by a craft or skill advisory committee, or by a national certification board

2. Reviewing/Developing instructional component:

·       Curriculum: is the sum total of the learning experiences for which the institution has responsibility

·       Course: is the offering of instruction in one well-defined part of the curriculum designed to help students meet a set of learning goals

·       Course Outline: is your master plan… >>>
