The topic regarding the instructor/facilitator role in student attrition was enlightening.  While many factors contribute to student attrition, an instructor's role in fostering a positive and supportive learning environment is crucial.

In synchronous learning it is also important to use body language as visual communication to the learners.  A head nod for example can help convey the message that the individual understands or agrees with the speaker.

Both instructors and students can benefit form online learning by adding short biographies in the LMS.  Posting short biographies is a way of introducing oneself to their class and instructor thereby, building relationships.  It is imperative to create a welcoming environment to learn from each others diverse backgrounds and skill set; transparency breeds trust.

Synchronous learning involves real-time interaction between learners and instructors, oftentimes delivered through live webinars or online classrooms.  One key aspect of e-learning include the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS), course design and the delivery of digital content.
