Activity

The different types of test and why or how they are used  in relations to how we as instructors teach.

I learned the importance of active learning to keep students engaged.  Which also relates to learning how each student/s learn on an individual level.

I learned how to ask a question appropriately, how much time to give to a response etc... things I didnt think about being so important. I was just focusing whether they were learning the material or not.

Students will not tell you the type of learning style they are but I just have to see what works and look for signs the information is getting across.

Knowing the material is part of the equation.  Definitely puts into perspective when establishing roles but I like the part where it says dont be surprised if your student knows more than you about the subject! I think things like that also help encourage the rest of the class.  Staying humble allows those students that may not be too communicative to see you as being approachable in case they are having trouble with the lecture.

I know realize that I have had some pretty good teachers.  The techniques about engaging quiet students and how to deal with the ones who talk too much is something I have definitely seen in action.  Not something I thought I would have to learn but non the less a very important set of tools to make sure my course goes smooth.  More importantly to make sure everyone gets there fair share of knowledge.  Very interesting stuff for sure.

I also like putting the human element into the equation.  I am a huge on respect and I believe little things like learning students name is something so simple we can do but goes a long way.  It is a good way to break the ice and set a tone of the class and then adjust accordingly.

Being a former student at my location I have an understanding at the reasons for pursuing to further my education.  I can only imagine that students are here they have the same drive to better themselves as well  so it is up to me to be able to provide the knowledge and the experience so they can push themselves as well.  If they have any issues, try to resolve them or direct them to where they can their issues resolved so they don't get discouraged.

I think this is where we all shine in our own way.  We must make sure that we know our material to be able to present it in the many styles needed to get the information across.  Present it in a manner that keeps students engaged and ask questions along the way to insure information is being retained.

It is important to get to know your students and vice versa all while establishing your position as an instructor.  In order for students to want to learn they have to feel comfortable with myself as well as the other students.
