About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Paul, What have been your most successful strategies for making this happen? Thanks for your input on this. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nestor, Good for you. You are walking the talk and walking the walk both of which are essential when you are modeling professionalism for your students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Rommel, Keep part of their education is learning self discipline and behavior. By operating your class like the work place you are helping them to become professional in their "soft skills" which are as important as the knowledge they are acquiring. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Rommel, Right on all points. All of these areas contribute to a professional image and a standard for the students as they develop their own identity as career professionals. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jill, I consider rapport one of the rewards of being a teacher. Having established rapport with my students I feel like we have a connection that will last beyond the class. They are going to be fellow professionals so I look forward to hearing from them in the future as they develop their careers. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Lakithia, I use both in my classes. My students like to play the games when we are reviewing for upcoming tests and the case studies lets them apply their newly acquired knowledge. Makes for enjoyable learning. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Lakithia, Good way to keep your finger on the pulse of the class. The ongoing feedback helps you to adjust the direction of the course should you need to in relation to student needs. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Misty, I get the same results when my students introduce themselves. It gives me a real good feel for the student composition so I can plan my instructional delivery in relation their learning preferences. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
David, I have my students sign as sheet as well indicating that they have received and read the syllabus. This as you say reduces student frustration because they have the information and are being held accountable for having it. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Misty, So true. A well prepared clear and concise syllabus reduces student frustration and sets the tone for a positive class atmosphere. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
