About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

David, Great way to start a course and get the students settled in to it. I like your last sentence. They will be surprised at how much they will learn once they start applying their new knowledge and skills. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jasmin, Know your students and plan accordingly. You are right on with your comments about doing such. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jasmin, I like the way you define professionalism. It is such important part of who we are and how we model our expectations of students and your definition outlines the critical components. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Monica, Yes it sure does not to mention it helps to keep us excited about being able to teach something we love and are passionate about and impact the lives of our students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Paula, Good motivation effort. Small successes help to build the final project, which in this case is completion of the course. I commend you for your strategies. You are keeping the students engaged and focused on their futures while completing the requirements of the course on a regular basis. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Patricia, When reduced to the basic level students no matter their age are still humans. Little things like food, positive words and support go a long way in keeping them moving forward in their learning. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Barbara, I agree. Without hope there isn't much to look forward to. So we need to help them see their futures if they are willing to put in the effort required. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Patricia, Good point for instructors to remember. As each person is unique so is each class. The composition and dynamics of each class shapes how we approach our instructional planning. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Zedia, This is an effective teaching technique. The more involved the student are the more opportunities they have to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
