About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Walter, Good way to show your students daily expectations and accomplishments. They can see steady growth in relation to the end course goals and objectives through the daily objectives that are up on the board. I like this graphic way of sharing your message with them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Sami, Right you are about the learning environment. What do you do to make sure your environment is ready to receive your students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Charles, This is so important and why we need to look at our learning environment through the eyes of our students. When we do that we see the setting differently and can make any adjustments we need to to ensure the students will be comfortable there. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jonathan, I agree. You need to have the knowledge base from which you can share content that is accurate and timely. An instructor without this kind of base is nothing more that a "space heater" in the classroom. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Darlene, instructor passion and excitement about his/her field goes a long way in getting students enthused about learning the content. As you say have fun with your teaching. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tim, Good advice and advice I need to focus on more. I need to be able to do what you are teaching your students --"working smarter not harder". Thanks for sharing it. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Darlene, I like this format because it has the students contributing to the class in a number of different ways. This method also builds their self confidence and communication skills since they are making class presentations. A win win for everyone. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Darlene, An investment of time and listening to students yields great returns as you indicate. This forms the foundation of rapport development and the earning of mutual respect. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Darlene, I am a big fan of using games for review myself. I have found that my students really get ramped up and excited when we go into game format. They are competitive and engaged during this time. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Darlene, Good reminder for all instructor. Syllabi have to be current for courses. They are the first formal communication students have with a course so they need to be clear and concise in content and layout. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
