About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Cory, Right you are about bringing students along and helping them have success. There are those that refuse to be helped and while we may be disappointed we can't let them derail us from working with the willing students and have success with them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jane, Application of content tied directly to career growth is very important. You make a good point about how this needs to be done right from the beginning. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Monica, Relevancy is so important to keep in mind as you develop your instructional planning. If your students can see relevancy to the content they will become more engaged in the learning process. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Joe, Plus, you have a higher level of self confidence in what you are going to share with your students. A win win for everyone. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Garrett, Classes and observations of other instructors are two good ways to expand one's professional expertise and an educator. Keep looking for additional ways to develop your instructional delivery abilities and your growth will be ongoing. Gary Dr. Gary Meers

Jane, I understand clearly. I teach a required foundational course and it is always a challenge to get them to see value from what I am teaching as opposed to just meeting a requirement. I like teaching this course because I have to work hard at being creative and convincing them that in spite of their ideas about the course at the beginning they are going to learning information that will be of help to them. Always a great feeling when I have them say at the end of the course that the information was interesting and they really learned… >>>

Jane, I think you will really like the results you get from your students with scaffolding. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Peggy, Right you are. This is both a challenge and an opportunity for instructors. For sure teaching is never boring because of the different students and strategies that are used. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Petya, Good accountability for both you and your students. You are sharing with them where you are starting from and at the end where you have been. They can see the path of learning that was taken in relation to their learning preferences. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Shirley, Students love stories from your work experience, don't they. I know mine always perk up when I give them an examples of the content we have just covered in a situation that I have experienced in my work life. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
