About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jennifer, Good for you and your students. You are right about how important it is to be a model for your students. Many of them may never have had contact with someone from their field so you are setting the standard for conduct for them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jay, Appropriate dress and conduct that reinforces the career field is important along with what you have already listed. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Joseph, You make a good point. Grouping needs to be done so there is variety to the different learners. This way everyone benefits from working together in the groups. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Joseph, The fun part of teaching. New students all the time to get to know and help to achieve their career goals. The challenge we have is to stay fresh in both are delivery and content so are students are getting our best effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tina, You hit on two key words and these are relevancy and application. These two words are what give the students ROI for their effort. They see how what they are learning will help them shape their futures. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Arthur, Good point. We want them to become invested in the class and their own learning. They need to see value from what they are being asked to learn. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Karen, I agree because I have taught in freezing settings as well as green house classrooms. Both of these extremes cause the students to focus on their personal comfort and not on the content. We need to make sure the class or lab is comfortable so they can focus on learning. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Schnikka, For sure. The students need to know what the expectations are and then be given the steps to achieve them. This way everyone will be working toward the same common set of goals. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Noah, Right you are. We can have fun and enjoy our students and the interactions we have with them. For me, this is what keeps me coming back to the classroom. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Schnikka, What are some ways you have found to be successful in delivering the material to your students? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
