About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Sarah, I use ice breakers to start my new classes as well. They are great to get everyone talking, laughing and getting settled into the course. Thanks for sharing your ideas about fun questions that can be asked as you work through the ice breaker. This will be of help to other instructors. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Uwe, It sure does. You then can help them connect your course content with their career goals. This increase the ROI for them being in school. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Sarah, Since you are walking in both words, that of a student and a teacher you have a foundation from which to operate. I like the way you approach your teaching. You are giving your students to be interactive and engaged as they acquire the required content. A win win for everyone. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Antonio, Change of pace and location is a good way to keep students engaged. You are doing this with your "road trips" and interactive Q&A sessions. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Antonio, I think the information method you are using gives you some valuable insight to your students. This way you will be able to structure your instructional delivery in a way that engages your students in the learning process. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Gayle, Strategies like those you are using help to get the students comfortable with you and the class. Humor goes a long way in helping students get settled into a course. Good job. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Cynthia, So true and so critical for teaching success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Carmen, Good advice for all instructors to remember as they get ready to go into class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tony, There is a saying I have seen hanging on classroom walls around the country and it says "Listening is Learning." This saying makes sense to me because as you say we need to be good listeners so we can learn more about our students and their learning needs. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Steven, Clear and concise goals and objectives are the road maps that students follow to achieve the needed knowledge and competencies. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
