About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Diane, This comprehensive approach will yield good results for both your students and yourself. They are going to be engaged and focused on the content being offered. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Wayne, Well said. I have been teaching for a long time and I am still amazed at how little I know about how the brain works and how students acquire information. This what for me makes teaching so much fun because I get to be creative in my delivery each time I enter a classroom. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Ronnie, Opportunities like this need to be taken so you can continue to share with your students information that is current and relevant to the field. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
William, It sure does. It sounds like it wouldn't but the physical act of writing the problem down and then discarding it for a period of time really helps the students to focus on the course content for that day. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michael, Yes, they will. This is a situation that needs to be avoided because these students will soon be gone and as a result their career goals will not be met. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Ronnie, This is such an important part of teaching. The students need to feel valued and supported. When they do they will be more engaged and focused on learning. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Trina, You raise a good and essential point about student support. If students don't have basic needs being met they are not going to be ready to learn. By knowing what resources are available and then referring the students to those resources you are helping them to become stable in their personal lives so they can be effective as students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Diane, Anytime you can show relevancy and application you are helping the students connect the dots between course content and real life. A very important part of teaching and you are doing that with your instructional strategies. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Diane, These types of learning cues really help the students stay focused as well as giving them a sequence of progress in terms of knowledge acquisition. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
William, So important. Thank you for bringing up this reminder about feedback. Student need and value it when given on a regular basis. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
