About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Steven, By following this format I know you are going to see great learning outcomes from your students. You will be using their learning preferences so they can connect with the content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Ronald, Good point about developing student rapport and the value that can be derived from it by the students. This connection with them helps them to see that they have support from their instructor and that he/she wants to be successful if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Shawna, Good for you. You are helping them resolve life issues and challenges through the referrals you are making so they can focus on bettering themselves. This is so important and I know your students value the effort you are putting forth. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Alicia, The key is follow up with students so they know someone cares about them and their success. You are demonstrating such caring through your outreach to them when they miss or need some additional input on an assignment. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Robert, I like this approach as well. It is important to help students see how they can and will learn in a cooperative environment if they are willing to participate and share. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Shawna, Right you are about the need to reach out to students and engage them in discussion and interaction. This helps them to see the value of the content and how application of it can be made. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kate, Thank you for raising these good points about the need to have a positive and supportive learning environment online. This sets the stage for student engagement and interaction. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kate, You are right about needing to help students see the relevance to what they are being taught plus make application of it. Your approach enables that to happen through the use of current events and changes in the field. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Daniel, This approach is so important to student success. Knowing they have a supportive instructor helps to motivate and encourage student learners when they are struggling. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Marshall, Respect and rapport are two very important parts of being an instructor. We need to earn the respect of our students while giving them respect in return if they earn it. Rapport then creates a connection between the students and the role model, meaning the instructor. Good points. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
