About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Kristin, So true and time is so important in teaching. We need to make sure we make a positive first impression and then we can build from there. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Allison, So sorry you had to go through something like this but I am excited to read how it turned out. I complement you for your efforts to salvage a class left adrift. You have reinforced the need for the human factor as an educator and how it can bring back students from failure to success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Sharon, That is a good idea as well. The more feedback we get as instructors the more we can customize our instruction to meet their needs. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Pamela, Glad to hear it. It is frustrating to prepare content and being passion for your field to the classroom and find that the students will not be motivated by anything you say and do because they are their for the $. This incoming group of students will enable you to enjoy teaching about your field to individuals that want to benefit from the instruction offered. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Deborah, Good point because that is what we are to do as educators. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Pamela, I create learning groups of 3-5 students. I balance the group members so I have the different personalities spread throughout the groups. This way the shy/timid students contribute to the discussions in small group and then take turns reporting out on the problems they solved or case studies they have worked on. With this model I get input from everyone. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Peggy, You have a great approach to instruction. I like the way you are bringing current information into the class each time you teach it as well as fresh approaches to how it is delivered. Everyone benefits from this. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Christopher, It is amazing the difference knowing the names of students can make in student relationships and the development of mutual respect. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michael, Students like an engaging supportive instructor and you are just that. So keep up the good work and continue to enjoy teaching. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Thomas, Hay, bribery has worked for me for many years as a teacher. Students no matter their age like to eat so there is nothing wrong with using food to enhance learning. You are using a technique to engage the students in an area that they are not the most excited about and you are getting them interested. Keep up the good work. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
