About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Paulette, This is a part of teaching adults. They need to see themselves as partners in the learning process so they do need to have opportunities to make choices throughout the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Venusa, One of the major parts of our instructional planning should be how we are going to demonstrate to our students the "human factor" in our teaching. Knowing they have a professional educator that respects them is important if they are to stay in school and complete their courses. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kathaleen, I like the way you outline the need for effective and efficient communication on the part of the instructor when sharing content. This is critical if the students are going to stay focused and engaged throughout the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Venusa, Great ideas for how to get students familiar with the support systems that exist in their school and how they can personalize those systems to be of help to them when needed. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Miriam, This is a such a great resource for the students. This way they know they have support available if they are willing to use it. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michael, This is such a powerful part of getting a class off to a good start. Getting them settled in and comfortable helps to create a supportive environment that has them focused on learning and engaged with the content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Miriam, This is very important because they can become discouraged and bogged down with the pressures of life that are external to the classroom. They need to be reminded of where they are going with their education and the future that awaits them if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Paulette, Students love to work on case studies and to hear about real world examples they will face in their careers. These stories help them to see the value of the content and how that content is going to help them in their future career development. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Ryan, What are some effective ways that you are able to get this feedback? Thanks for sharing with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Karleen, So true and something that sometimes is overlooked in the instructional planning process but not overlooked by the students when they enter the classroom and/or lab. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
