I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. Marisela, Bookending your goals really help them to have value to and for students. This way they see what they have accomplished at the end of class because the accomplished goals are highlighted. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Andrea, It sure does and thus the reason we need to work hard to make it a great one for our students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Diane, This is a good ice breaker to use at the beginning of a class. I know this idea will be of help to beginning instructors that are looking for ice breakers. Thanks for sharing it. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Chuck, Thank you for sharing your experiences as a long time educator. This is good information for new instructors to have because sometimes the become discouraged with all that they have to do to get ready for the first day of class. You make a good point is that educational improvement is an ongoing process that never really ends, we just retire and someone else keeps on doing it. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
MARIE, What are some ways you share goals with your students? Is it through the syllabus, discussion or some other format? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Frank, I like the way you have set forth a long term goal while dealing with the realism of now in terms of how you will teach while you are gaining experience as an educator and learning ways to be more effective in with your content. This bodes well for both your students and yourself. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mina, You are on the right track. Students need variety in delivery so they can reset their minds at different times in the class. In addition, you will have a higher level of engagement as a result of your approach. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Courtney, You have a very global perspective on how you want to approach the classroom. I think you are going to do well as a teacher. Bring your personality into the classroom and enjoy the interaction you have with your students and the result will be effective learning plus great interaction with students. I wish you much teaching success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
MARIE, You make a good point about feedback. It is facilitates student engagement and enhances instructional improvement. A win win for everyone. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Margo, Good point about feedback. It is so important to teaching and learning success. The way we grow is through the exchange of information and feedback. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
