About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Meher, What a wonderful complement. Keep up the good work you are doing. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Courtney, Good point about the reasons why instructors need to offer variety in their instructional delivery. Learners seek and need variety in their learning opportunities. Variety lets them reset their brains at different times throughout the course and engage the learning process once again. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kristi, Well said. It is so much easier to build on a positive first impression rather than spend a lot of time digging out of a negative hole for the next few weeks. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michael, The more you can know about your students the more accurately you can target your instructional planning. I am sure you get a wide variety of student experiences in your classes and then build on those experiences in your planning. Good point thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Angelia, Well said in terms of outlining the value of a well prepared syllabus. This is the GPS for the course so the information needs to be accurate, understandable and appreciated. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kristi, You make a key point about the value of a well prepared syllabus in relation to helping students see the value of the course. This sets the stage for a good course as a result of a syllabus that outlines what is going to occur and what the expectations are. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
MARIE, Good way to show the students what progress they are making at the mid point of the course and then what they have learned/accomplished at the end. This helps them move to the next course with more confidence. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Ron, Good point about the value of clear goals and objectives. They need to be concise and communicated in a way that the students can see the value of the course content and how what they are going to learn will move them forward in their career development. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kristi, This is a very good way to see how you present yourself through the eyes of your students as well as giving you ideas for how you can improve your instructional delivery. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
David, This was a great way to show value for your content to a student that saw no application at all. I am sure as a result of your talk with him and the information he learned he is going to be in a position to really promote and win jobs for his company. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
