About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Tim, Right you are. What are some of the strategies you use to identify the different learning preferences of your students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Deanna, Right you are about needing to understand adult learners and the kind of support they need at different times in a course. They bring many life experiences to the classroom but in doing so they also bring some challenges that can get in the way of their success if they don't have the right type of support. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
David, Well said and right on point. This is what we need to reflect and model in all that we do as educators. Thank you for sharing these comments with us as I know they will be valuable to instructors that are just starting their careers. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Hector, By understanding your students and their learning preferences you are going to be able to more accurately target their support needs. This support will help to keep them engaged in the course and moving forward toward their career goals. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
James, As a role model you need to present yourself as a successful member of your profession. This gives the students an example they can follow in their own development. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, Good for you in terms of refocusing the students. They will try and lead the instructor off the learning pathway at times and it is our job to keep the class moving forward and achieving the set goals. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tom, Having early course success is very important for students to have as this helps them to stay engaged and focused on being successful in the course. Once they achieve some success they start to build on that success and their self confidence continues to grow. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, I have found the same thing. Social interaction helps in student development and growth as it shows them how they will need to interact with others when they are in the work place. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michelle, Having a support group is very important to and for students. This interaction helps the students to see how they will need to work with others when they are in the work world. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kristi, This is a very effective instructional model to follow. It keeps the students engaged as you know so keep bringing this strategy into your classroom. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
